This month’s Frenchtown Connect highlights two distinctive businesses located right across the street from each other. Whether you’re a music enthusiast or drawn to earthy, handmade goods, Dirty River Records and Stephanie’s on 2nd are must-visit local shops.

Dirty River Records

Dirty River Records, run by Kyle Boaz, is a haven for music lovers. Since opening its doors in May 2024, the shop has grown from 2,000 to approximately 7,600 records, spanning a wide variety of genres. Boaz, whose passion for music began at age 16, enjoys connecting with customers over shared musical interests.

“I love coming in here and people just striking up a conversation about a band, a genre, a concert they went to, and just having fun connecting with people over something we both mutually love,” Boaz said.

Boaz orders new records weekly and is happy to help customers find specific albums. His advice for music fans: break out of your comfort zone and explore new genres—you might be surprised by what you discover.

Store Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily (11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays)

Location: 913 N. Second Street

Stephanie’s on 2nd

Step into Stephanie’s on 2nd and you’ll find a curated selection of crystals, handmade jewelry, artisanal candles, herbs, oils, and other unique items. Owner Stephanie Cox describes her shop as a reflection of her personal interests, blending elements of boutique and metaphysical offerings.

“I'm not necessarily a boutique. I'm not necessarily metaphysical. It's kind of like everything I like,” Cox said.

Cox specializes in intricate wire-wrapped jewelry, a craft she began after a car accident left her bed-bound. Through self-teaching and online tutorials, she developed her skills and now shares her creations with the community.

“I would like to just thank the community and thank all my supporters for making my little dream come true,” she said. “I'm excited for all the growth that (Frenchtown) is going through, and I just want to be a part of it.”
