For ten years, New Town’s community-wide garage sale has given neighbors a chance to clean out closets and garages, shoppers an excuse to hunt for hidden treasures, and everyone another reason to get out and explore the neighborhood.
Organized by LaNikka Blackmon-Forrest, the annual tradition brings participating homes together for one big weekend of bargain hunting. Shoppers can expect a little bit of everything along the way — furniture, home décor, clothing, toys, collectibles, household goods and plenty of unexpected finds waiting for a new home.
Part of the fun is never knowing what might be waiting at the next stop. Whether you’re searching for something specific or simply enjoy the thrill of finding a great deal, the weekend offers an opportunity to travel throughout New Town while meeting neighbors and discovering different corners of the community.
A public digital map and printed flyer will help shoppers locate participating sales and plan their route. Individual sellers provide descriptions of what they’ll have available, making it easier to identify must-visit stops — or simply follow the map and see what you discover.
And there’s no need to rush home after the shopping is done. Grab lunch or a drink from a local business, take a walk around the lakes, visit a park or spend a little more time enjoying the neighborhood. Bring a friend, grab the sales map and start hunting.
