One of New Town’s most colorful traditions is back as Chalk the Walk once again gives artists of all ages the chance to transform ordinary sidewalks into incredible works of art.
This year’s theme is Route 66, opening the door to plenty of creative possibilities—from classic cars and vintage diners to neon signs, roadside attractions, Americana and everything associated with America’s most famous highway. Whether you’re an experienced artist or simply love getting creative, everyone is invited to grab some chalk and join the fun.
Chalk the Walk began in 2018 after New Town resident Molly Schad attended a similar event while traveling in Utah. This year’s judges are Sarah Bonderer of Fast Lane Classic Cars, Kimberly Ellis of Kimberly Jewelers, and Lindsay Sutton, winner of the inaugural Chalk the Walk in 2018.
There are some great prizes on the line, too. The top three artists will each receive $100 cash, and new this year, the overall first-place winner will have their artwork featured on the October cover of NTxConnect Magazine!
Participation is free, with a suggested $5 donation to help offset event costs. Each registered artist receives their first set of chalk and can bring additional colors, blending tools, brushes, stencils or anything else needed to create their masterpiece. And once the chalk settles, keep the fun going! Grab a bite from a local restaurant, stroll through the completed artwork, and finish the evening with a free concert by Box of Chocolates.
