How far can you go when there’s always one more lap?
The Second Annual Backyard Ultra at New Town returns with a unique “last person standing” challenge for runners—and, new this year, ruckers.
Runners will tackle a 4.17-mile loop every hour and must finish before the next hour begins. Make it back in time, and you can line up again. The format continues until only one competitor remains.

A new weighted rucking division adds a 2.6-mile loop, which would take participants to 100K after 24 hours. Ruckers follow the same hourly format, with minimum weights of 20 pounds for women and 30 pounds for men.
Registration is $25, with competitors also putting $1 into the race jar for every lap. Half of the final pot goes to the last person standing, while the other half benefits research for Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome (MSMDS).
The cause is personal. Competitors are racing in honor of 3-year-old Braxley, who turns 4 in November and is living with MSMDS, an ultra-rare genetic disorder affecting smooth muscle cells throughout the body. With only about 70 known patients worldwide, funding for research and potential treatments is critical.
The Amphitheater serves as race headquarters, giving competitors space between laps to refuel, recover and encourage one another. Race-route signs will be placed throughout New Town, but roads will remain open. Residents and drivers are asked to be courteous and watch for participants. Signs will be removed once the race is complete.

Whether you run 1 lap or 30, ruck, cheer or donate, every lap helps carry the fight for Braxley a little farther.
