Regional Eyecare Associates: Innovative Vision Care in St. Charles County

Regional Eyecare Associates office

Regional Eyecare Associates is a locally owned and trusted eye care provider that has been serving the St. Charles County area since 2005. Dr. Elizabeth Voss, O.D., shares insights into the goals and outlook for the North St. Charles location, as well as the innovative technologies being implemented there.

Commitment to Service at 370 & Elm

"We Serve. You’ll See!" has been the guiding motto since Regional Eyecare began. Dr. Voss explains, "At 370 & Elm, we continue the same commitment to service, excellence, and integrity that is the foundation of Regional Eyecare. Each patient has unique visual and ocular health needs that we strive to meet with friendly service, comprehensive care, and innovative technology."

First Impressions Matter

Patients are welcomed into a comfortable waiting room with friendly front desk staff and festive holiday decor. Dr. Voss adds, "Be sure to check out our letter board—there's always a good pun on it!"

Empowering Patients Through Education

Dr. Voss emphasizes the importance of patient education: "I believe patient education is crucial to help my patients be partners in managing their ocular health. If I have a concern, I explain it so they understand why I am recommending specific glasses, eye drops, or testing. This empowers them to make informed decisions moving forward."

Debunking Eye Myths

One common myth Dr. Voss addresses is the use of redness-relieving drops like Visine and Clear Eyes. "These drops use tetrahydrozoline to shrink blood vessels temporarily, but after the medication wears off, they can cause rebound redness and irritation. They do not treat the underlying causes of red eye such as dryness or allergies. Consult your doctor for appropriate recommendations."

The Importance of Routine Eye Exams

"A routine eye exam is so much more than just glasses and contact lenses; we examine the eye from front to back and test visual and neurologic function. Many conditions, such as glaucoma and diabetic retinopathy, may have no symptoms in early stages but can be managed more effectively when diagnosed sooner. The eyes are also windows into overall health, revealing signs of systemic conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure."

Collaborative Care for Long-Term Health

Regional Eyecare’s team approach ensures comprehensive care. "Our staff are the first point of contact and help carry out treatment plans. We also work closely with ophthalmologists for specialized care. With five offices, 14 staff doctors, and two surgeons, we collaborate to provide the best outcomes for our patients."

Personalized Care for All Ages

"We manage patients from infants to those 100 and older. For children, we assess vision and eye function using age-appropriate methods and objective measurements. The American Optometric Association recommends exams starting between six and 12 months, then at ages 3-5, and annually during school. Adults should have checkups every two years, or annually if at higher risk, and yearly after age 65. Advanced diagnostic instruments aid in adult care and management of ocular conditions."

Innovative Technologies in Eye Care

Regional Eyecare offers cutting-edge technology, including:

  • Optomap retinal exam: Captures a wide image of the back of the eye, providing a record for future reference.
  • Optical coherence tomography (OCT): Images eye structures using light, aiding in diagnosis.
  • VR headsets: One maps peripheral vision for glaucoma and neurologic conditions; another tracks eye and neck movement to design custom progressive lenses.
  • Myopia management: MiSight soft contact lenses and FDA-approved Stellest lenses help slow nearsightedness progression in children.

Giving Back to the Community

Dr. Voss, a native of Orchard Farm, values serving her home community. "It means so much to give back to the community that shaped me. We partner with the Lions Club to provide free school screenings and collect used glasses for donation overseas."
